Evaluation of behaviour of linear monoamines CH3-(CH2)n−1-NH2 (n=1-6) in ion chromatography

This paper reports the results on a study of ion chromatography (IC) behaviour on strong cationic exchange column of CH₃-(CH₂)_n−1-NH₂ (n=1-6) type linear monoamines. The eluents were mixtures of HCl-NaCl, HNO₃-NaNO₃, HClO₄-NaClO₄, H₂SO₄-Na₂SO₄, HClO₄-NaClO₄-CH₃CN. Amines were revealed with an amperometric detector. The influence of different counter-ions on retention factors, k′, is discussed. Relationships between k′ and pE (E=sum of Na⁺ and H⁺ concentrations), and length of alkylic chain, and sensitivity coefficient S, are reported and discussed. The addition of acetonitrile (ACN) in the eluent was also taken into account. Suitable considerations are derived from these data. An example of monoamines separation is given.     

Hydrolysis of (CH3)3Sn+ in Various Salt Media

The hydrolysis of trimethyltin(IV) has been studied by potentiometry (H⁺ -glass electrode) and calorimetry in various salt media (NaNO₃, NaCl, KCl, Na₂SO₄, and NaNO₃—NaCl mixtures). The effect of ionic strength on the hydrolysis constants is accounted for by a simple Debye–Hückel type equation and by Pitzer equations. The results allow us to obtain H for hydrolysis and the temperature dependence of the Pitzer parameters. The resulting coefficients can be used to examine the speciation of (CH₃)₃Sn⁺ in multicomponent electrolyte solutions, such as natural waters, over a wide range of temperature and ionic strength.     

Reaction of thiete 1,1-dioxide with α-chlorobenzalphenylhydrazine and methyl phenylhydrazonochloroacetate

Thiete 1,1-dioxide reacts with 2 moles of α-chlorobenzalphenylhydrazine and methyl phenylhydrazonochloroacetate in the presence of triethylamine leading to the pyrazole derivatives 6 and 7 whose structure and mechanism of formation are discussed.     

Ultrasound effects on the Mn(III) - promoted addition of amidoalkyl radicals to olefins

Amidoalkyl radicals, generated from amides by Mn(OAc)₃ in acetic acid react with phenyl substituted alkenes to generate five-membered lactones or lactams. Ultrasound at ambient temperature significantly accelerates these single electron transfer reactions even when compared with conventional conditions under reflux or simple mechanical stirring. In some cases sonication leads to unusual products.     

Size and persistence length of molecular bottle-brushes by Monte Carlo simulations

Single-chain simulations of densely branched comb polymers, or "molecular bottle-brushes" with side-chains attached to every (or every second) backbone monomer, were carried out by off-lattice Monte Carlo technique. A coarse-grained model, described by hard spheres connected by harmonic springs, was employed. Backbone lengths of up to 100 units were considered, and compared with the corresponding linear chains. The backbone molecular size was investigated as a function of its length at fixed arm size, and as a function of the arm size at fixed backbone length. The apparent swelling exponents obtained by a power-law fit were found to be larger than those for the corresponding linear polymers, indicative of stiffening of the comb backbone. The probability distribution function for the backbone end-to-end distance was also investigated for different backbone lengths and arm sizes. Analysis of this function yielded the critical exponents, which revealed an increase in the swelling exponent consistent with values found from the molecular size. The apparent persistence length of the backbone was also determined, and was found to increase with increasing branching density. Finally, the static structure factors of the whole bottle-brushes and of their backbones are discussed, which provides another consistent estimate of the swelling exponents.     

Direct minimization of the energy functional in LCAO-MO density matrix formalism I. Closed and open shell systems

A direct method of minimization of the energy expression for closed and open shell systems in LCAO-MO density matrix formalism is presented. The method makes use of a unitary transformation acting directly on the density matrices. Expressions of the gradient and second energy derivatives are worked out. Some preliminary calculations to test the rate of minimization using a variable metric method have been made on H₂S and SO molecules and have given satisfactory results.[/p]     

Reactivity of the tetrahydroborate copper(I) complexes [(PR3)2Cu(η2-BH4)] (R = Ph,Cy) toward CO2, COS,and SCNPh

CO₂, COS, and SCNPh react under very mild conditions with the copper(I)-tetrahydroborate complexes [(PR₃)₂Cu(η²-BH₄)] (R = Ph, Cy); CO₂ and COS give the complexes [(PR₃)₂Cu(η²-O₂CH)] and [(PR₃)₂Cu(η²-OSCH)] respectively, whereas SCNPh gives the η²-dithiocarbamate complexes [(PR₃)₂Cu-(η²-S₂CNHPh)]. Addition of PPh₃ under CO₂ to solutions of [(PPh₃)₂Cu-(η²-BH₄)] gives [(PPh₃)₃Cu(η¹-O₂CH)] while addition of PPh₃ and NBu₄ClO₄ under CO₂ gives [(PPh₃)₃Cu(η-O₂CH)Cu(PPh₃)₃] ClO₄.     

Hetero Diels-Alder reactions (HDAR) of α,α′-dioxothiones on solid support

Solid-supported α,α′-dioxothiones are easily obtained starting from β-ketoester modified Wang and hydroxymethylated polystyrene resins. The hetero Diels-Alder reactions (HDAR) of these species, used either as electron-poor dienes or dienophiles, followed by a simple cleavage of the products from the resin by trans-esterification with sodium methoxide, allowed the isolation of the desired cycloadducts in overall yields up to 90%.     

Studies on isocyanides and related compounds. A convenient synthesis of 2,3-disubstituted spiroimidazolones

The four-component condensation between cycloketones 1 , ammonium formate, and isocyanides 2 afforded formamides 3 , which were dehydrated to the corresponding isocyanides 4 . Upon treatment with n-butyllithium, compounds 4 cyclized to spiroimidazolones 6 , via the carbanions 5 . A series of 2,3-disubstituted spiroimidazolones 8 was obtained by reacting 5 with aldehydes 7 .     

(±)‐6‐tert‐Butyl‐8‐hydroxymethyl‐2‐­phenyl‐4H‐1,3‐benzodioxin and 2,2,2′,2′,6,6′‐hexamethyl‐8,8′‐methylenebis(4H‐1,3‐benzodioxin)

Two compounds containing 1,3‐benzodioxin groups are reported, namely (±)‐6‐tert‐butyl‐8‐hydroxy­methyl‐2‐phenyl‐4H‐1,3‐benzodioxin, C₁₉H₂₂O₃, (I), and 2,2,2′,2′,6,6′‐hexamethyl‐8,8′‐methyl­enebis(4H‐1,3‐benzodioxin), C₂₃H₂₈O₄, (II).The hydroxy groups of neighbouring mol­ecules in (I) are hydrogen bonded to each other, giving rise to double‐row chains. The mol­ecule in (II) adopts a `butterfly' conformation, with the O atoms in distal positions. In both compounds, the dioxin rings are in distorted half‐chair conformations.
